About This Site

Top Dog Joint Health List publishes first-person reviews, comparisons and how-to guides on dog joint and mobility supplements: glucosamine and chondroitin chews, green lipped mussel, omega-3 fish oil, turmeric and liquid hyaluronic acid. Everything here comes from daily notes kept on one older dog, and none of it is veterinary advice.

Supplement Safety

Nothing on this site is veterinary advice, and a supplement is not a treatment for arthritis or any other disease. Talk to your own veterinarian before starting, stopping or combining any joint supplement, especially if your dog takes prescription medication, has kidney or liver disease, has diabetes, or is scheduled for surgery.

Follow the amount on the label for your dog's weight and do not stack products that contain the same ingredient without asking your vet. Fish oil and turmeric can affect how blood clots and can interact with some medications. Green lipped mussel is a shellfish product and is not for a dog with a shellfish allergy. Keep every bottle out of reach, since a dog that gets into a bag of flavored chews can eat far more than a safe amount, and never substitute human supplements, which can contain ingredients such as xylitol that are toxic to dogs.

Stop the product and call your vet if you see vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or any other change after starting it. Sudden limping, a dog that cannot stand, or crying out when moved needs a veterinarian the same day, not a supplement.
